The Hawaii Files was in receipt of this media release. Re-posted FYI.

MEDIA ADVISORY

What:  Kaka’ako United (KU), a group of concerned citizens dedicated to ensuring the quality of an integrated Kaka’ako community from mauka to makai, is marching to bring Kaka’ako’s concerns to the Capitol.  They want to tell legislators Kaka’ako is not being built according to community plans; instead, is being destroyed by the Hawaii Community Development Authority (HCDA), the state agency responsible for “fast and furious” approvals of Kaka’ako development projects.  The Legislature will be hearing from KU and other communities at the Hawaii Alliance rally in the Capitol Rotunda that follows the march.

When: 8:30 am – 11:00 am, Wednesday January 29, 2014. The march will begin at 8:30 am and join the rally at 10 am in the Capitol Rotunda.

People's Rally Against Rail

People's Rally Against Rail

Opposition against the City's $9+ billion rail project is growing. The Hawaii State Supreme Court has ruled that the City is building the rail without doing a full archeological survey to map ancient burials. The result of this ruling has temporarily stopped rail construction.

A federal court case against the project is pending judgement. Former Governor Ben Cayetano, a longtime rail opponent won the recent Honolulu Primary election for mayor and is on the general election ballot this coming November. If he wins, rail will stop. The Federal Court case may also put a stop to rail. We'll see.

Yesterday (August 31) about 150 opponents of rail showed up in front of Honolulu Hale to protest the rail. There were speeches, sign waving and chants of "stop rail now". This train must stop. It is insane to continue. Attendance was good since there was only short notice about this rally promoted mainly through social media sites and email.

iVote Rally on January 17

iVote Rally January 17

iVote Rally
The Battle to Save Traditional Marriage
Starting January 17, 2010 at 2:00 pm | State Capitol

Hawaii Family Forum and dozens of churches and organizations throughout Hawaii will rally once more at the Hawaii State Capitol in the latest salvo to save traditional marriage in Hawaii. Organizers of the iVote Rally expect at least 10,000 people to show up at the rally on January 17 starting at 2:00 p.m. They are hoping to bring in 24,000 people according to the latest TV spot that started airing today.

The issue at hand is HB 444 scheduled for a floor vote in the State Senate as early as opening day, January 20. If passed HB 444 would approve "civil union" benefits for same sex couples, which will be nearly close to or the same as the benefits enjoyed by traditionally married people.

Furthermore Hawaii's voters in 1998 voted on a constitutional amendment to reserve marriage to opposite-sex couples. The problem we now face is that the entire amendment reads as follows:

"The legislature shall have the power to reserve marriage to opposite-sex couples."

The problem lies within the State Legislature, who this year, once again, want to take that right away and practically grant marriage to same-sex couples under the guise of "civil unions".

This is simply wrong and goes against the will of the people.

Democrats are said to be in favor of fast tracking the bill, while Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle says this is not the time to tackle the issue due to the seriousness of economic matters impacting the state.

Now is the time for all people who value the sanctity of traditional marriage to rally and show your colors. Organizers are urging people to wear white (not red) this year at the January 17 rally. It will be a good idea to wear this color at all subsequent assemblies where HB 444 will be heard and perhaps voted upon. This includes the opening day of the State Legislature (January 20) and all subsequent days until action on HB 444 is taken (or hopefully denied).

If you cannot attend the rally, show up to the Legislative sessions starting on January 20. Calling, faxing, writing and emailing your legislator is next best step.

90% of Success in Life is Just Showing Up!!

From OvertaxedHawaii.com:

If you are concerned over rising taxes, prices, and fees in Hawaii; you must show up for the NO MORE TAXES Rally on Tuesday July 14 @ 5 p.m. This is a citizen Rally and all citizens have a chance to speak and voice their concerns. Just like the TEA PARTY; we ask -- NO MORE TAXES, period.

OK, if you really cannot show up; then send this notice to everyone in your address book or re-post it to your blog. Maybe others can carry the burden that will save Hawaii citizens from tax-ruptcy.

Really, taxes are important. Really, cost of living is an emotional issue.

Take a serious look at your pay check, fixed income, grocery receipt, rent or doctor bill and you will see how personal purchasing power is diminished by taxes; a little here - a little there - and soon taxes add up to a BIG amount - over 40% for many middle income folks. Hawaii is #1 in the US with the highest personal income tax rate and the highest sales tax rate (our GE tax is equal to a 14% California sales tax!).

Taxes make up the largest single expense most of us have in our daily lives. And, when those taxes increase while wages or savings do not; devastation awaits.

Without you telling the Hawaii State Legislators NO -- they will keep coming back for more out-of-our pocket money by increasing taxes and fees. Remember, tax and fee increases raise prices on everything you purchase. No one is exempt.

The message from the STORM THE CAPITOL Rally is: thousands of citizens insist - NO MORE TAXES, period.

Of course, if you do not show up at the Rally and the Legislators see only hundreds of citizens (not thousands) well expect Legislators to feel good about adding 0.5 or 1% to your GET next time they are in session later this year. Try wait and end up losing more!!

Our government cannot spend anything that it does not first take from the citizens. It is up to each of us to tell them NO MORE TAXES.

Join us on Tuesday July 14 @ 5 p.m. to send a clear message; NO MORE TAXES.
