Back on the Big Island of Hawaii

Road Resurfacing

Earlier this month I spent a few more days on the Big Island of Hawaii. The main reason to go there this time was to attend the 35th year reunion of my high school class. That would be the Class of 1975 from Honokaa High School. I'm old.

Here are some of the photos that were shot over the 2 day event:

Most of the reunion photos are at the Honokaa High School Class of 1975 website. We also have our own Facebook group. It was nice to see the people who had attended.

Elsewhere in Honokaa - The sewer project must be nearly over it is hoped. While I was there construction crews were paving Mamane Street that runs through the heart of town. No more metal plates for drivers. That is a good thing. Hopefully they don't have to dig it up again.

TKS Kaneshiro Store is set to close on September 3. The store will change hands and will be run by Mahalo Market on the day after. A 70 year business will come to an end. People will miss the Kaneshiro family who have decided to retire from the business.

This view (below) of Oahu as I flew out of Honolulu was quite impressive on the morning of August 5:

Abercrombie & Hirono are Socialists

Former Hawaii Congressman Neil Abercrombie, one of the two major Democratic party candidates running for Governor has been listed as a socialist by the Socialist Party of America.

His name along with current U.S. Congress person Mazie Hirono are listed among 70 congressional Democrats according to the blog "Gateway Pundit".

You can view the list at this link.

Former Congressman Neil Abercrombie and his chief Democratic rival, former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hanneman are engaged in an escalating campaign filled with nastyness as the primary election day nears. Both Abercrombie and Hanneman have huge $2 million-plus campaign war chests that will probably be all spent on various media messages between now and primary election day, September 18.

It is so much fun to be sitting on the sidelines watching these 2 fight the bitter race. Nothing like 2 Democrats being pissed off against each other.

I think the former Congressman will probably pull off the primary election victory to go against presumed gubernatorial nominee and Republican conservative James "Duke" Aiona in the November 2 general election. Aiona has a huge campaign war chest that is hopefully being saved for the general election battle to come.

With HB 444 being at the center of this past year's bitter legislative session, it is hoped that Mr. Aiona can pick up on the anti-gay marriage message and run with that all the way to Washington Place against the extremely left wing, socialistic Abercrombie. We'll see.
