Raucous at Ewa Neighborhood Board Meeting

Got wind of this from State Rep. Kymberly Pine's post on Facebook this morning:
"After 3 months of trying to oust Ewa Neighborhood Chair Kurt Fevella for conducting illegal activities, his removal finally gets on the agenda. Board members are about to vote. Fevella family members in the audience pretend to start a "false riot." Fevella adjourns the meeting to avoid the vote against him inciting the... "riot act." The man walking in the back is Coby Lynn, a fevella supporter. He moves 2 cameras owned by residents to start a fight."
So it looks like the chair of that neighborhood board bullied the people and temporarily got his way... at least from the video. Fate will catch up with him and he'll eventually get "the boot".

Leave Magic Island Alone!

Magic Island Diamond Head HNL

Magic Island, the man-made park next to Ala Moana Beach in Honolulu Hawaii, is one of the most popular recreational places in our city. Thousands visit the park every day. It is a favorite place for locals to hang out, have a picnic, go to the beach, jog, walk or attend the occasional special event.

The area has been known as Magic Island since it was constructed in the late 1960s on top of a reef. The place was slated to be a hotel resort, but that never happened. The State of Hawaii acquired the property and later passed it on to the City & County of Honolulu.

It is 30 acres of open space for everyone to use. It is a park that is worthy of its current English name, "Magic Island" as well as it's little known Hawaiian name, "Aina Moana Beach Park."

Mayor Mufi Hannemann, wants to rename Magic Island "Barack Obama Park." Hello? Is this stupid or what? The current President of the United States is not worthy of having anything in this State named after him. He has been in office for less than a year and is doing more harm to our nation than good. Plus parks and other places are usually named after dead people unless the City Council makes an exception, like how they did for the Frank F. Fasi Municipal Building in downtown Honolulu.

But to change the name of Magic Island to Obama Park ... that should never happen. Leave Magic Island alone. Do not let the mayor or the Honolulu City Council change the name.

Contact Mayor Hannemann and tell him you oppose renaming Magic Island.

Email: mayor@honolulu.gov or telephone 523-4141 fax: 527-5552

Then contact the Honolulu City Council and tell them the same too.

Honolulu Rail Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Got this press release from the SBH Foundation:

Release of a Honolulu Rail
Greenhouse Gas Emissions Analysis

Tuesday, December 8, 2009

The Small Business Hawaii Entrepreneurial Education Foundation (SBH Foundation) will hold a press conference on the steps of Honolulu Hale, City Hall, Tuesday, December 8, 11:00 am to release a newly commissioned study, "Honolulu Rail Transit Greenhouse Gas Emissions," by Wendell Cox.

Cox, is a principal of Wendell Cox Consultancy (Demographia), an international public policy firm that specializes in urban policy, transport and demographics. Cox has provided consulting assistance to the United States Department of Transportation and was certified by the Urban Mass Transportation Administration as an "expert" during the Public-Private Transportation Network program (1986-93). Cox has consulted for numerous public authorities in the United States and abroad.

Present at Tuesday's press conference to discuss the rail study in detail and its impact on Honolulu's environment, will be Dr. Panos Prevedourous, University of Hawaii Professor of Engineering, and Sam Slom, President, SBH Foundation.

The Honolulu rail DEIS contains no estimate of the proposed rail line's impact on greenhouse gas emissions. The SBH/Demographia report corrects this oversight and analyzes the future production of electricity, best and worst case scenarios of gas emissions in Honolulu's proposed rail, and costs per ton of any reduced greenhouse production.
